Celebrating their victory at head office in Milton Keynes, an excited team gets together to show off their prize and receive some well deserved congratulations from managing director, Simon Solway (pictured far left).
Bakery Supplier of the Year is one of the most coveted awards in the bakery sector. Part of the British Baker Magazine’s annual Baking Industry Awards scheme, the Supplier category is Sponsored by J Sainsbury.
‘It is one of the more fiercely fought categories, so we are extremely proud to have won over so many worthy rivals,’ said Mr Solway. ‘The judges were particularly impressed with the way we work with customers and the fact that we make time to listen to them. It obviously works, since many of our customers – and indeed, our staff – have been with us for a lot of years.’
The award is also given for outstanding performance in the area of technical sales support. Unifine’s team has an enviable reputation for its expertise but especially, its willingness to go that extra mile. Mr Solway comments, ‘We have been known to weather floods and even the odd snowstorm or two when a baker in northern Scotland has been in trouble in the middle of the night.’
Mr Solway has been with Unifine for over 20 years and it was he who guided his company through all the changes, acquisitions and new brand developments the business has seen over the past decade. So successful was it that Unifine was purchased by North American ingredients specialist Dawn Foods earlier this year.
The award ceremony took place recently at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane. It gives the reigning Bakery
Supplier of the Year 12 months for celebrating. ‘From here, we plan to go from strength to strength
but more importantly, to serve our customers in the best way we can,’ concludes Mr Solway. But for
today, it’s celebration time, with a slice of pizza to follow – and back to building those sales.
